RA 8142 EARLY G.W.R. SPLIT CASE "TURNED BRASS STEM" COW BELL" ship-zone-c block bells are fitted withA nice early pattern example of a Great Western Railway manufactured split case block bell, these split case bells were mostly converted with a one piece lid. The purpose of the removable front portions were intended for the signal lineman to carry out routine maintenance on the instrument with removing the lid with its bell thus prevent its operation. The idea didn't actually work out and most were converted. This bell is in totally original
