This large pattern Webb-Thompson train staff is a "B" pattern configuration (red) and has a brass casting at one end and is engraved with the section of line to which is applied

Even better is the fixing studs on the back are still present

Thompson & Co, these fine instruments were introduced in the early 1920s and is example is from this period. The give away to these early examples is the vertical Nickle plated support bar which has a ruby jewel fitted to reduce friction and the hand painted face. These were superior instruments and lasted up to later 1960s when they were replaced with cheaper
