19th Century Italian Cruciform Brooch yellow gold Marks: Stamped 9ct goldStriking antique cruciform brooch made in Italy in the early 1800s. Inspired by regal jewels from the preceding centuries, pieces like this are now categorised as traditional or "provincial" jewellery and were championed by the likes of the Castellani firm later on in the 19th century. It's set with natural baroque pearls atop volcano like bezel mounts and flat cut purplish garnets. The back is beautifully engraved, and someone has added two lengths
