I found a reference to a virtually identical type of sock in a 1931 German mail order catalog also sized in this fashion

There are slight variations on the buttons

There is a slight rattling noise coming from the steel part

It measures about 3 1/4" tall

I am unsure what it originally contained

Repro RG34 K98 Cleaning Kits ostfront I found a reference toReproduction RG34 (Reinigungsgert 34) cleaning kits. These are post war manufactured cleaning kits that are the same model as WWII. Used for K98s and other weapons. The postwar paint has been stripped and postwar markings on the outside have be filled (the inside still has some markings). They are repainted in Ordinance Tan and a waffen amt has been added. Price is for one cleaning kit. The spoon is NOT included in the cleaning kits!
