Geisha 5 East Coast of Scotland half-dreamed – and full of20 x 20 cm This series of Geisha paintings began by chance, rediscovered while leafing through an old book during an attempted clear out. Inspired by the late Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro, the work quietly echoes the mood and sensitivity of his prints. Its less about costume or exoticism, and more about presence. About surface and pattern. About the fragile balance between stillness and performance the pause between moments
