it is spring loaded so pull out the metal clamp then mount the pencil in the metal clamp then you can just turn the crank and the the spring draw the pencil into the cutter

It measures about 2 1/2" by 1 1/8"

If only I could have know then what I know now

There is some discoloration and some spotting

There are a lot of small moth bites scattered throughout

The covers on the hat are interchangeable and this hat has the white cover, black cover and rain cover. Size 21 1 2. Nice U. S. Navy Nurse's Uniform label on the sweatband. The hat and covers have some wear and staining (see photos; no attempt has been made to clean it). The back hole on the hat and cover don't quite line up.
