I have used the Top Pup and Dog before but honestly wasnt too much of a fan of the action or sound (its loud but the sound isnt natural for the profile of the plug, and the action wasnt really that great)
Quality is less important, but if you go for a PENN rod and reel combo that casts a couple of ounce, youll be fine with feathers and youll get something high quality, too
I also like spinning reels that have an anti-reverse switch that lets me position the bail where I want it prior to casting
